97 f350 shifter

my shifter doesn't want to move at all its a automatic, and I had it towed and the guys at the shop broke it but now I need to fix this and idk how any of you know how or can enplane this to me , like I try to make it go on N or D and it just doesn't want to move so is this fixebal and on a scale of 1-10 how hard is it to fix ?

Try turning the key to UNLOCK (one click forward, BEFORE any of the dash lights come on). Then try moving the shifter. If it moves, your BTSI (brake transmission shift interlock) is the prime suspect. Check brake light fuse, brake light switch.

If it still doesn't move in this position, the ITSI (ignition transmission shift interlock) is the suspect. It's a mechanical lock between the key switch and the shifter. You'd probably have to take the column apart to investigate that.

So it may seem like a big deal, but it's most likely an ITSI-BTSI little problem (sorry; had to say it.....).
