rear fuel pickup broken? parts? pics?
I've had my truck for every one of the 155k miles on it and have always been able to run out the tanks to "E" leaving a few gallons of fuel behind. Never once has it run out of fuel on me.
However, the last two fill-ups, I have had it run dry on the rear tank at just under 1/4 tank (there are still several gallons left in the tank). So I am pretty sure from searching the forums that the rear tank's pickup broke off and I am leaving behind several inches of fuel more than normal.
I want to have the parts available for the job but I can't find any reference to it in my parts manual CD's. Every fuel level sensor that I can find for my truck seems to be just the electronics and not the fuel pickup or dip tubes.
I have found reference to a part E5TZ-9J-306BA but can't find pictures or descriptions of it -- I'm not big on buying parts blind and hoping they are applicable to the truck I own and the problem. I have also seen some suggestions on just putting a piece of sliced hose on the dip tube - but was there a screen on the original part? If so, open hose might let large debris plug my fuel lines...?
Anyone know where I can find the part numbers? Anyone seen a picture of the pickup so I know what I'm looking for before I take the tank apart?
By the way, it's a 97 Crew Cab with a short bed if that makes a difference in part numbers.
