Rough running issue

Ok I have 96 powerstroke and the problem I am having is truck runs fine then out of nowhere it starts running really rough and check engine light comes on about 10 seconds later every thing smooths out and check engine light goes off. The check engine light never stays on so I cant get any codes to find out what is wrong. I can also shut truck off and restart and runs fine then it does it all over again. Any ideas on what it could be.

I would check all the valvecover wiring harness connections for evidence of melting/burning. Also remove the oil cap and take a sniff for that burnt electrical insulation smell. Cheers!

I don't think that is it I came home to work on it and it did not want to start at all. It would crank but not fire so I unplugged the ICP and it fired right up. I think I found my problem

Did you replace the ICP? You should be able to pull the codes with a good scanner. Those symptoms sound like what I went through before I replaced my ICP and cleaned the EBP tube and put a new sensor on. Does your tach move while cranking?
