cruise control trouble

I've got a '96 250 and for a few years now I haven't been able to use the cruise it started out just not wanting to stay on over 75 then it went down to 70 and so on now we're down to about 50. It will reset and stay on for a while either 5 seconds or 10 min. I've put a new speed sensor in the rear end with no results a couple years back and have since given up. Then I found this site I figured ya'll might help.

I've got a 96 F350 with cruise control problems to, it works fine until I put the right blinker on to change lanes and it cuts off, I can hit resume and it works fine.

the switches in the steering wheel get dirty inside and end up not working properly and intermitently. that could be your problem, also check to see if your brake switch isnt setting it off because that will also turn the cruise off. those are the only 2 things that i can think of that will cause it to shut off. you could also have dirty contacts between the steering wheel and the colum.

I also forgot to mention that the speedo bounces pretty good when I get to about 65. When I went to autozone to get a speed sensor they gave me one for the tranny but I can find nowhere to put it what's the deal????

Cruise control and turn signal problem...check your rear tail light make sure none of the filaments are out causing short and cutting your cruise out...

Reverse light switch on the tranny can kill it as well.

my cruise on my 95 surges its really annoying. it works fine but its constantly surging with the bouncing speedo? how do i fix this?

mine did the same exact thing. on mine the tq converter would slip enough to cause it to surge constantly and made me think the cruise was surging because of the bouncing speedo. i ended up replacing the tq converter and the problem stopped but the speedo still bounces. maybe yours is the same problem?

the speed senser is in rearend. and fix the bouncing speedo you need to change the speed gear thats inside the rearend.did that to mine and fixed the problem.
