no throttle response then hard shift?

going through the home depot parking lot a while ago and throttle response went away.i patted the pedal a little ,then all of a sudden it comes back and bam!!! transmission shifts extremely hard ,check engine light came on for about 15 seconds then went off.drove pretty good rest of way home.what could that have been?thanks in advance,allen

lost throttle response along with check engine light one time about a week ago but no abnormal shift like tonight.
