Clutch?

I have a 97 7.3 F250 HD

Clutch was sticking when I pulled horse trailer last weekend. THe gears were grinding a little into 2nd about 7 months ago then 3rd started and now 4th.

Screams when I shift into reverse. I only drive it once a week to get hay & only a few times pull horses.

ANyway, does this sound like a clutch or trannie problem? What's the cost of a new clutch?

there are several things it could be

1. pilot bearing siezing up not allowing shaft to slow down and shift

2. pressure plate sticking causing cltuch drag

3. pedal assembly under dash on that model bushings worn , causing drag

4. hydraulic leak, not allowing full disengagment of clutch

so bottom line is the main reason for your problem is the clutch dragging not allowing it to shift correctly, but several components can be the root cause , if you keep driving it like that it can cause internal trans problems, if clutch pedal feels fine with no play , then clutch , pressure plate , release bearing and pilot bearing is probably the problem

if it still has a dual mass flywheel , i would seriously consider the dual mass eliminator kit , is a good idea if clutch has to be replaced
