intermittent fuel problem

bought a 96 7.3 turbo with 5k miles. Leaked fuel and starving for fuel. I rebuilt the fuel bowl and replaced leaking hoses to manual pump. Found screen blocked between fuel bowl and pressure regulator. I am having this fuel stutter again and wonder how fast crud can build up on this screen. I have loosened it away enough to blow it clear? Common? Would this cause it to be ok at idle and then starve at acceleration?

There is another mesh screen in the bottom of the regulator where the line comes up into it. You might check that one. You also may need to check the fuel pressure when the truck is under load to see if it is dropping off (a 0-100 psi liquid-filled gauge with enough hose to enable taping the gauge to the windshield). My 94 had the high pressure stage go bad while the low pressure stage was fine (so it would idle, but die once a load was applied). Cheers!

Thanks, I'll check that. Seems odd to accumulate that much crud accumulating in under 700 miles since it was rebuilt.
