Can anyone help?

I am having a intermittent problem with my 97 psd 2wd automatic truck it has a 6 pos chip, diy intake, and a bb mod,new fuel filter and clean tanks, i also cleaned the screen in the fpr a few times.. it has only 75000 miles on it and i cant figure this out...

sometimes at low idle it rolls very slightly like from 500-700 but very slowly. it climbs and than drops...

if at cruising speed for a period of time, like say driving down the highway, as i go to get off the highway and decend to the stop light, the truck downshifts normally and than gets to idle and suddenly chugs like the convertor is locked up almost, and than sometimes dies if i dont give it gas.. if i catch it and goose it a little, it wont do it

also VERY intermittently it feels very slugish between like 1100 and 2000, and other times it throws ya back in the seat..

I AM CONFUSED

TPS? im thinking?????
also would the selector switch on the side of the tranny have anything to do with it? i heard it may

thanks in advance guys

the trans range sensor on the side of the trans , can cause the idle to go up and down like you arev referring to, but generally only when first started , then quits after take off, not saying it couldnt , just not as a general rule, have you had it checked for codes , is the oil in good shape , maintenance is very important , an ipr regulator can cause a rolling idle at a stoplight also
