crank but no start and no smoke

First off let me say I'm brand new to the diesel truck world. I work on a farm with my dad and this is the first truck I've ever bought and was hoping it would last forever. I purchased a 1996 F-250 PSD. On the interstate today though on the way home I just lost all engine power like someone had cut the key off. I had probably went 40 miles.

I know this next part isn't good for the engine butttttttt me and my dad decided to try some ether we use to crank the tractors with on cold mornings. Will run on ether. Drained the fuel filter and turned the engine over and watched it fill back up no problem. Checked the fuel pressure on the schrader valve with a tire gage and went beyond 45 psi (all it could read) The WTS light does come on, I tested every fuse under the hood and dash with my fluke and they all passed, but I am not getting white smoke while turning over which I'm assuming means no fuel to the injectors or injectors arent getting signal idk... I also get a reading on my tach when trying to crank. Suggestions would be great, thanks

Did it sputter at all or literally just shut off with no warning?

Check your valve cover harnesses.

Also I question whether your cam sensor just went out on you. Check that connection and maybe just get a new one and throw it on.

Dumb question but you have good battery power correct? Iirc the trucks won't even fire the injectors at anything below 11 or so volts.

The batteries are good. The cps looks new. The bracket that holds it in is shiny like it was just replaced. Plus its an old body style and everyone says that if the tach on the old body style moves it isn't your cps. And all my valve cover harnesses look good

Here's an update

I pulled my passenger valve cover and all of my wires are good and connections are tight. I ordered a idm from the parts store to see if that is it. They are going to let me return it if it isn't the problem. I checked my hpop reservoir and it is maybe a inch or less from the top

I fixed it this morning. The new idm was the cure although I'm kinda scared about what made it go bad? I don't want ti go through this again and spend another couple hundred bucks. Any clues?

Well the truck isn't new, parts like that do to out, not often, but it happens, just be sure so not go fording because its a sealed unit but water has made it's way into more than a few of those idm's before
