Can cps still show rpm if bad?

So my truck still isn't starting I have checked everything there is to check, my cps is still reading rpm but can it still be bad?? I baught one from advance and truck still didn't fire then someone told me never to use a cheap one so I took it back. thanks

yes it can. mine did.

there are a lot of guys on here that will probably tell you that the tach isn't really the most reliable way to know if your cps is bad.

What were the symptoms before the truck didn't start anymore?

look for a guy with an Autofair screen name. When mine went bad he replied to me, quoted me a great price for the ford piece and had it on my doorstep in two days.

As said its possible to be bad and still show rpm, but mine is from autozone works fine

Yea they can be intermittent, thats what happened to mine, it would work fine sometimes and then others it would kill it at idle.

As for autofair he changed his name its now 2000-7.3L. His name is dylan, he has good prices(dont let him know i said that though)

Before the truck died and wouldn't start back it would act like it would want to take off while not even touching the pedal for some reason when letting the clutch out, and I found that my icp nut had fell off and it was just sitting there going all over the place.
