Transmission - OD Light Flashing???

Hey fella's, so last week I had starting problems. Had the IDM Module & Relay replaced, also a new alternator and battery...Problem solved.

Yesterday, I went out to do some clean up (snow plowing) after some bad storms we had earlier in the week. I should probably also first mention I had to downshift a couple times for some stop lights because my rear brake is on it's way out (loss of some stop power w/ abs light on). Anywho, while on my way home last night, I had to climb a long grade and like usual I get on it near the bottom of the hill so I don't drop much below 50 mph before I can reach the top (otherwise I end up with about a quarter mile of cars in my rear). So, after I get near the top the OD off light started flashing, it went away and then started again about a mile or so later, then went away. I got home a bit later checked the fluid, which was low ( I've been a little negligent). I added 2-3 quarts of fluid, drove around for about 40 mins or so, and everything seems fine, shifts fine and no more flashing light so far...so now I'm praying to the transmission god's, that's all that it was...please, please, please.

Should I be overly concerned at this point? I was thinking, just maybe throwing in an addative, run it for a week or so and then do a filter/fluid change...What do you think? I've been pushing snow for 21 years, and my track record is good w/ transmissions. I've only replaced 2 in that time frame and one of them wasn't my fault. This one was done about 4.5 years ago w/ maybe 30-40 k on it now (also added a shift kit on that rebuild).

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank's, Frank

I may have forgot to mention, the fluid smelled sweat/ not burnt and was still red. I would say about 30-40 k on this fluid. Thank's Frank

the additive wont do anything good....it may bandaid the problem for a short period of time but it wont fix anything....

you may get lucky and have the low fluid level be the probelm...but usually when an OD light flashes there are internal tranny problems....

if you can have a shop pull the codes that would tell us a lot more...

Thank's fella's, I will change the fluid and get the codes pulled asap. I sometimes buy my Rotella oil and filter, then take it to the quicky lube and have them change it for me cuz it's way too cold and icy this time of year on my driveway. Some time ago the dude at the oil place told me not to change the trans fluid on a unit that old because it could cause probs down the road...from what I have read on here, that sounds like an old myth. Then again, they don't know how to put the filter back on right either...
