2 Problems

1996 F-350 OBS PSD 150k.

Problem #1: Won't go into 4wd. Drive shaft spins, front axle u joints spin one at a time (I am assuming that is correct). It has aftermarket automatic hubs (yes I know they are junk, they came on the truck) and so I am guessing that it is the hubs that need to replaced? Is there some way that I can confirm this?

Problem #2: Check engine lights comes on when first started. Doesn't seem to matter when temp I start it at, but it's just when it is "cold" or first starting it up. If I drive it and shut it off then turn it right back on we are good. After it runs for a bit it turns off. Also it seems that it doesn't have as much power when the light is on and it idles a little lower when the light is on. Short of plugging it in to read codes anything else that I could try, that maybe you guys have run into?

Thank you very much for all the help in advance!

Anyone? Just really don't want to drop $250 on new hubs if they aren't the problem.

Thanks.

I'm not a 4x guy but PM me an email address and I'll send you Fords auto hub removal and installation guide. My first thoughts are to have you remove the hubs and inspect/grease them. Install and try the operation again.

Without a scan tool its kinda hard to find out why the Engine Error light is on. I would first suspect that it is an ICP error. Maybe you have a weak HPOP and the PCM can't keep the high pressure oil up.
