100% Batteries... no start... then 25% Batteries

I have an 97 7.3. This past Sunday I went out and tried to start it and nothing... sounded like dead batteries. I checked the batteries by plugging in a charger, both were around 25%

I charged both batteries to 100% over the last 30 hours, I tried to start it, and same thing... just a "click". Strange thing... I then checked the levels of the batteries right after trying to start it, and they were back down around 25%... is this even possible?

Thanks guys!

Yes it's possible, the batteries are shot!

Take them somewhere that has a load tester to properly test them so you know for sure. I have had batteries in the past that did the same thing when their time was up.

Went at got the batteries load tested and they came back 100%. Tech suggested the starter may be dead...

Can someone direct me how to test this starter?

Cheers!

If the starter is shorted to ground, it will usually fry the negative battery cable. It will however, produce a click similar to what you are hearing.
