Dummy light possibly causing this problem?
I have a 97 p-stroke and the battery light stays on or flickers. I know it's the little wire on top of the alternater but could this affect my idle? My truck is an auto and when in park running the idle jumps around from 700-400 and you could feel a little shake? Really have no clue what's causing this?

Also when it's in park and I turn the wheel, or put the lights on the idle will drop down too. Confused as if this could be related to that stater harness. Battery's and alternater are new!

I think all of us have had this lamp sometime or another and it's a nuisance considering the effort we put forth maintaining these trucks .
I have experimented with volt meter on long drives with new alternator and the charging rate would stay around 14.5 and climb to 16.0 before the internal regulator would kick it back to normal ,not too alarming but it satisfied my concern . Here lately I have had this lamp display and I pull and check alternator wires for loose connections and light disappears .I wish I had the answer ,but that light is a pita |

Ohh ya it's a pita!! With my volt meter it bounces from 12-14. Could fluctuating voltage effect the idle? I ordered a new harness for the top I that alternator so I'm hoping it does the trick

Anyone know if battery voltage could effect idle
