how do you drain the fuel filter

how do you drain the water from the fuel filter water seperator does the engine need to be running or not cannot find the drain hose. [Please help]

there is a lever on the fuel bowl. Open it. The tube comes down off the front passanger side corner of the block. DO NOT open it with the engine running. Key off, open her up, and drain her out!!!

do you wait till its quits draining or just open it for a certain amount of time

thanks Marc it just seemed like last time I tried draining it it wasn't gonna stop and i started smelling diesel. but this time It drained for about 10 seconds and stopped. But I still couldn't find the hose it seemed like it was just draining into the valley No big deal I guess .

What about the 6.0 is the drain the star plug on the rail assembly?????

It shouldn't drain into the valley. The valve should be connected to a metal tube by a short rubber hose. The tube then runs down the passenger side front of the engine. See the pics in the link at the end of my sig.

Never done it on a 6.0 myself, but a buddy with 2004 model said his was a plug somewhere in the frame below drivers door...
