Whining with high egt's

Have a banks intercooler kit that is roughly 1 year or 12000 miles old. 98k total on truck. I was climbing a mountain pass with weight at about 10,000 ft. Elevation. It started to make a deep whining sound at higher elevation, and next thing I know the egt's started climbing to give or take 1000 (which rarely happens) and recovery from those levels was SLOW. The sound continued as did the higher egts for the next hour home. I'm thinking there is an issue with losing pressure in tubes, but don't see any visible damage worth noting. First intuition is to replace boots at the y, which are aged more.
Am looking for input before I start tearing it apart. Thanks.

New to membership here, but not new to reading the forum. Thanks for the help in the past and going forward.

This post might be all for not. Replaced the air intake boots and the whine is gone. Still getting up to 1000 degrees while hill climbing.

I replaced the up pipe while rebuilding the tranny a couple hundred miles ago, I wonder if the truck is just going to run hot with mods.

1000 degrees isnt all that hot so you have no worries there.

Also you need to let off a bit. 10,000 ft is thin on air. Even with a turbo on there the engine won't breath as it should. I have a second chip just for altitude in my truck. If this hill is going to be something you cross a lot look into a 1.0 turbine housing. I won't provide any more air but it will start spooling a lot sooner then the stock housing. Beans has one for $100.

Great input. I was thinking that if the turbo stepped up earlier it would be easier on egt's. Especially with a horse trailer. Thank you.

What were boost numbers doing?

Boost numbers never get over 10-12, my impression was that was normal for these pickups.
