Sometimes it starts sometimes it leaves you sit
Hope someone can help me out here. I have a 1997 7.3L. It has been giving me problems starting. This morning I went out to start the truck, but it wouldn't hit. Engine turns over fine, just doesn't want to start. Smoke comes out exhaust. It started doing this off/on for about a month now. Once the truck does start, it runs fine. It will start the entire day just fine, but if you leave it overnight, the next day, it won't start again.
I even killed the solenoid on the thing trying to get it to start. Now it has two problems. I replaced the starter solenoid. Now the new solenoid stays constantly engaged once the key is turned. I had to remove the battery cables to stop the starter. Any suggestions? |

Well I had the same exact problem and I fixed it by just cleaning my battery cables good see what happen is my cables didn't look dirty but had a little bit of corrosion in side that created enough resistance that when gp and the starter drawed there volts it would drop below the 10.8 volts the computer needed to boot up

Well, so far it looks like the problem is fixed. I changed out starters and the truck starts up fine this morning. I checked codes and all passed. May have been an amp drain in the starter that prevented the computer from amping up.
