Clutch safety switch problem
I have a 97 F-250 and the about a month ago the clutch had to be pushed in so hard i could barely do it sometimes to make it start. I then found out that with about 5 quick kicks to the pedal it would start. This morning I went out and it wouldn't crank at all. Pushing hard and kicking didn't work at all either. I was wondering if anybody knows a cheap and easy way to fix this. If somebody could tell me how to override the switch that would be very helpful. Thanks.

First, check and see that it hasn't come loose and sliding back and forth on the pushrod (above gas pedal) and check that the connector hasn't come unseated. There is a retainer clip that goes along one side that slides out for removal of the switch (and I think some sort of metal clip on the cylinder to stop it from sliding on the shaft. Don't quote me, but I think it is the same switch as the gassers. As a last resort, jumpering the red w/blue stripe wires together will over-ride the switch, allowing starting with only the key.

Thanks for the reply. It was that bushing for where it meets up with the pushrod. I replaced that and everything is good as new.
