Battery light flickering 97 250HD
A few days ago my battery light flickered for a few minutes when I first started the truck. It went off once I started driving. The charging gauge was in the normal range. I checked the output of the alternator and it was 14.5V. I have not had any trouble starting the truck. Any ideas?

Kinda sounds like the alt. may slowly on its way out

If it goes off once you start driving it usually means the amperage output was low at idle. Test amperage also.

![]() Mine was doing the same thing but isn't now, also check the batteries. I replaced both of mine and it hasn't shown up yet since I did so. Though an alternator will be cheaper than how I went, dual Optima Yellow Tops are pricey |

It has not done it again. I am going to get a load tester for the batteries and keep an eye on the gauges. I measured the alternator output and it was 14.2V. I may even buy a spare alternator just in case. My dd is a 94 Camry with 316k miles and the original alternator. I bought a spare alternator an threw it in the truck since I drive all over the east coast. Of course when you drive around with a spare alternator and tools they last forever!

mine does it occasionally it has to do with a loose connection on the back of the alt. if the single wire has a bad connection it will illuminate the battery light in the cab

Exactly the same problem I had when I bought this truck... Check the connection.

i had the same problem on my 96 about a month or so ago.. instead of replacing the batteries or the alt. try replacing the voltage regulator on the back of the alt.
your battery light can come on when your alt. is OVER CHARGING the batteries also... i paid 10.00 for my new regulator and it solved the problem... local junk yards help... all you'll need is a small torkx bit to get it off... hope my .02 helps |
