air leak/boost leak

i have an 01 7.3 when i hold the rpm steady it sounds like a air leak or spray almost like a compressor air was wondering if you knew what it might be

also real bad fuel economy like 10-12mpg nothing done to the truck aftermarket

Generally I would look at your intake boots for leaks and maybe even the intake "manifolds" where they bolt to the heads. Cheers!
