For me it turned out to be the Power Steering Pump pulley being out of position. I kept shredding the inner rib off the belt. I had to pull it out about 2mm or so using a pump pulley puller/installer. No problems in about 15k miles now. Cheers!

Ditto for me.

My PS pulley is a bit out of line too and it makes a squeak but no shredded belts yet. Can you give a bit more detail as to how you fixed it?

Mine shredded after it was installed by a Ford tech during an 1800 mile trip. After the second shredded belt, I trimmed that inside rib off the belt and that got me home. I sold it shortly after that without fixing it. I'm not sure how to shim it into alignment, sorry.

It's not really shimmed or anything. I just used a pump pulley puller (from Autozone) to pull it out about 2mm. Very simple with the right tool. Cheers!

does anything need to be loosened or anything like that? or just grab on and pull?

i had a vacuum pump lock up on me and do that too, honestly, o'reailly sells a belt with a 6 month warranty, its kinda pricey but hell buy it, install in the parking lot, watch your motor running and see which pulley is either out of allignment and or locking up, good luck

No, with that type puller, you just tighten the puller to pull the pulley out a bit. Cheers!
