Question Water In Fuel

1996 F250 7.3 TD

The first time this occurred, I had just switched tanks, I drained the fuel filter/water separator (very little actually drained), and the water in fuel light went out until I made a right turn. I bring it to the garage, they replace the filter, and the problem is gone.

The second time (yesterday) it occurred again when I switched tanks but this time when I drain the fuel filter/water separator nothing drained, So I open the drain and start the engine (what a mess) the water in fuel light goes off and again only comes on when I make a right turn. Therefore, I assume I have to replace the fuel filter again.

Lessons

I think I need to find a new source of fuel

Questions

Why does the light come on only when I make a right turn?

Is it normal to have to change the fuel filter every time this happens?

Is this a situation where an OEM filter would be best?

I know on the later models there have been some issues with the water/fuel sensor getting gummed up. Then you have to replace the sensor. There have been some recalls on it I believe. As for the OBS trucks, I am not sure, but it maybe something to look into. Bad sensor?

Logan,

Kudos, the problem apparently was a leaking water in fuel sensor. Since the sensor was replaced, I have not had a reoccurrence of the right turn water in fuel light. So time will tell .

Thanks
