tranny problem

ive got an 96 with a five speed and my reverse gear wont go in unless you put it in first then second and then quickly ut it in reverse but even then while I'm backing up itll pop out of gear sometimes going right back in or it'll just pop out and grind. how can i fix this?

sounds like a synco is bad, odds are a tranny pull is in order with a rebuild

yeah i thought that but i dont under stand why it would go in and move in reverse then pop out and its worse when the rear end it higher than the front

I got the same issue with my 94 with 2nd. Mine it was the syncro hub and shift fork. try going from 4th to reverse and see if that helps. The problem is people don't come to a complete stop before they put the truck in reverse and wears the syncro out. In my case the shift fork wore out and wouldnt push the hub onto the gear all the way which in turn wore out the syncro and hub
