97 PS will not rev over 2K???

Let a friend borrow truck to rent bobcat. Claims truck was fine when he returned it. I believe him, honest guy. Anyway, days later I got in truck and it was very difficult to start. Finally did, but engine light was on and would not rev over 2K RPM. Limped to O'Reilley and every time they would hit "scan" on the scanner the truck just died. Replaced fuel filter anyways, no difference. Took computer from my 96 PS and swapped into the 97 and same thing. Not filter, not computer. However, check engine light no longer on. Turbo not seized... Hate taking to dealer because they are expensive and I don't trust them anyways. Any ideas would be appreciated.

lift pump is my next thoughts...

Thanks in advance!

Dustin

I know it sounds funny but check the air filter, had a mouse build a nest in mine overnight, never thought of checking that but the dealer did. costly easy fix.

My friends wife did that to there 94. What a problem that was. Sounded like it was coming apart by the time she got it home. She drove it about 3 miles on the gas mix to get home. We had to flush the tank and fuel system new filter and oil. Put the batteries on a good charger and started cranking 20 sec at a time. I took 10 min of this to get it to fire back up.
