Overdrive/Headlight problem

Hello, I have a 1995 f250 with 275k runs great, love it.

Recently my truck developed a problem with the headlights and torque converter lock up. The truck will run overdrive fine if the lights are shut off. Once the lights are turned on the torque converter unlocks on average of 250-500rpms above overdrive. Shut the lights off and it locks back into 4th.

The problem originally arised when i did some shotty tail light wiring. (had my brake lights linked to one tail light, lasted only a few days) I ended up snipping the linking wire and the OD/light problem went away. The truck was fine for a few weeks before it started again.

Ive read that the brake pedal switch can have effect on this, also had the alternator in mind. I dont exactly know where to start. I would like to beable to drive at night again.
