Chip Options for OBS 7.3

New to the ORG, (today)... am looking for slight improvements in performance. I already have K&N intake and exhaust. Aware that Tony Wildman chip is the Mac Daddy, but is rather expensive what other options do I have that are more reasonable in the $$$ department?

1997 F-250 Crew 4x2 SRW 5 speed manual...

Well with the TW chip he'll reburn it if you upgrade things like injectors or big oil. You could get a TS, Bully Dog chip with generic tunes. There are on Ebay from time to time pretty reasonable. DP Tuner or Swamps also have cutom tunes. But if you want custom tunes they're going to cost a little extra to get.

I run a TW chip, but have just sent it off to cale, so I can try his tunes.

Custom tunes are the best, wildman, DP, swamps, PHP, BTS and Im sure a couple more do custom tunes, if your looking for something cheap youll have to go with generic tunes but they just arent as good

I feel like these are the first few times I have seen Cale's name mentioned with those of TW, DP, etc.

Is Cale about on par with TW? Are there enough guys out there running his tunes to prove them reliable?

I know he has tuned some world record holders, but what about the guy who wants a performance bump while keeping everything else streetable...

There are plenty of choices for good 'Custom' tunes for your truck.
If you ever plan on upgrading injectors, turbo, etc. go with one of the 'custom' guys. Forget the off-the-shelf stuff like banks, Bully Dog, etc, as you'll need to scrap those when you upgrade anyway, they just don't work near as well as the custom stuff. So just start off right and not waste any money.

I always wonder why these are considered "custom chips"...they aren't dyno-tuned for your particular truck.

How are the chips from TW/DP/Cale any more "custom" than the programs offered by Banks, Bully Dog, etc?

Im pretty sure that "custom" referrs to the chip being burnt for your particular mods... So if you have a set of injectors and upgraded HPOP, or any other mods particular to your truck, he can burn you a chip to take more advantage of those mods.

A off the shelf unit is designed for a wide array of truck, and with each truck being different, the tune set in that programmer is going to be good for one truck, but will lack in others..
