No sensors as far as emissions check your states guidelines as far as visual for a cat or do they do a sniffer test or an opaceity test.

a 97 doesnt have a cat

when i went this year they walked down the side with the mirror and then hooked something to my exhaust pipe. i got underneath my truck to check and saw my muffler but before that there is another part that is almost as big as the muffler so i am assuming that is the cat?

my '97 had one....so yes they do. I believe they stopped putting them on the superdoodies. If they do visual checks in your state you could gut it and weld a pipe through it so it wouldn't cause air turbulence but would appear intact.
