Powerstroke exhaust

I have searched on this forum for a answer but cant really find a straight answer.
If I take my truck to muffler shop and replace the cat and muffler with pipe. Is that good bad or what. Basically leave it stock and just delete the cat and muffler. It is a 95 F350 7.3 turbo.
I have heard people say that it doesnt do well because you loose backpressure but alot of people are doing it
Thanks
Mike P

That's the same as straight piping it. Like you, I've heard a lot of people doing it, and haven't read any bad results from it. It will cool your EGT's down, and sound cool though. I'm no expert, but I don't think that diesels need or want a lot of backpressure to run good. My truck is pretty much straight piped from the turbo back, no kitty, and a flow through muffler (there isn't anything slowing the exhaust gasses down in this one) and it runs like a stang

The mony the muffler shop will charg save and get a turbo back 4". Here in Ohio a muffler shop will not do it unless you know somebody due to E check. well some areas in Ohio. You can pick up a good 4" for a few hundred.

I know of several shops around me (Ohio) that will do it. They are family owned and all so that might help. We go to one and they give us any left over pipe for free.

Also I wouldnt worry about back pressure cause having a turbo really takes away from needing alot of back pressure.

My 96 is straight piped. No problems. The turbo provides the needed backpressure. As seen in my sig....3" dp, 4" pipe to 6" stacks.

well I went this morning and had my cat and muffler removed and two delete pipes welded in and it was 4in pipe at $80.00. It is a ton better can actually feel it the seat.
Now the downpipe I have looks to be almost flat and goofy looking. Can I buy just a downpipe to replace the stock one

Yea there are several out there, I have a banks down pipe. one thing I dont really like about it is the egt sensor probe bung is in it so its after turbo when it should be before turbo, but thats an easy fix.

There is NO ill effect on the truck by having straight exhaust...as said before the turbo gives enough back pressure to the system...

basically this is what i know, straight piping doesnt hurt it whatso ever i know that for a fact. if you wanna brake it down, the 7.3 turbos (fixed pedistal) make enough bp to even run just a dumped downpipe but from what i understand the vgt turbos (variable geometry) need a certain amount of bp to run with the most efficieny but on the other hand the difference in having a full system with just a muff as opposed to sp is barely noticeable and only the sound is different. you do need a bigger dp the factory one on an obs is just ridiculous, you can feel a differfence just replacing that. but if i were you i would buy the dp and then save up for a real 4'' system which i recommend MBRP but thats just me
