Intercooler thoughts

I want to put a intercooler on my truck. i dont plan on upgrading much except a 17 hpop and stage 1's. I plan on keeping my stock turbo. what do u guys suggest for a intercooler set up. I wanna do it as cheap as possible. thanx in advance

1.7.3 sd intercooler with sd intake and pipes
2.6.0 intercooler with sd intake and pipes
3. either cooler but with the banks pipe kit

Either the 7.3L or 6.0L cooler will work well for you. The 6.0L cooler is a little larger and will cool a little better. The stock SD pipes really don't work to well. The way they route through the engine comp. they rub on a ton of stuff. Most of them that I've seen are aluminum and with aluminum being as soft as it is anything touching it will eventually rub through it. You can see this by looking on pretty much any passengers side pipe there is a spot where a wire loom runs over top of the pipe and wears groves in it and this is a simple plastic wire loom! You can cut and modify the pipes but there really isn't a good way to do it without some extensive modifications to them. You'd be better off buying some U bends and making your own. The banks pipe kits won't come with any mounting hardware that will work with those coolers so you would need to still be able to fabricate those as well.

I have the skills to tackle this project. Can u buy just the tubes from the hyper max kit? So go for the 6.0 cooler and fab up your own tubes. I know i need a early 99 sd spider intake, how do i know if i have the right one? Also isnt the inlet and outlet on the 6.0 cooler different sizes?

I just got my intercooler pipes i ordered last week from Boyer Custom Truck. Its the banks kit. I have had a 7.3 IC sitting for awhile. I would go with a 6.0 intercooler vs the 7.3. I should have waited and found one for myself.
If you go with ordering from Boyer, their great people to deal with. They kept me updated on the progress of the order. 1 problem though, Banks will not ship to a residental adderess, got to be a garage or buissness.

How much does Banks want for just the pipes? Will they work with the 7.3 SD intercooler, and early 99 spider?
