203 thermostat

well the 203 thermostat arrived and i installed it. my truck now runs on the r of normal and it opens up at the m. before it was barely on the o and would open up on the r. heat from the heater is quite a bit hotter and so far on my rear tank i have seen about an extra 40 km. hope this info helps anyone thinking about getting one.

I always thought that the colder your engine runs the better it will be.....Why do people keep putting hotter thermostats in their trucks? Is it really better for a diesel?

I think you get more power when cold and better economy when warmer

In theory if it's running hotter it will burn the fuel more efficiently. I've seen some people claim better mileage and some say they saw no difference at all. Hard to say but I'd check it over a few tanks rather than the first one where you are trying to see how much better your mileage is going to be and driving it nicer than usual to get it.

I have one. Ive been getting 16-17 around town and 21-22 highway. I dont give the thermostat any credit for this though, probably was a waste of money.

22 MPG now and still hopefully rising.
203* may be helping.
Also, I think my engine may be starting to break in at 70K.
Running a special blend of oil.
We'll see how it goes.
Goal is 25 MPG.

Ive got a '96 with 115,000 on it and my guage doesnt even get to N, usually stays on the line ti signify the lowest of normal. I got about 15MPG on the 285 mile drive home when i bought it last week.

sounds like a mod for me?

Well after a few tanks it seems i do get better mileage. But a few days ago the 203 has decided to be stuck open. So my truck wont even heat up to the n in normal. Well i plan to install another later this week.

I did a 203 thermo to help my truck warm up faster and it does give me about .5 more miles to the gallon. worth the money. Look online i got mine a while back but there all over the net.
