Advice on replacing Downpipe.

I just ordered a 3" downpipe from DPPI to install on my 95 PSD. I'm looking for some pointers from anyone who has performed this mod. How difficult was it to break loose and remove the factory DP from the turbo housing? I have a sawzall to take care of cutting the pipe in two for removal. Thanks.

Best thing to do is to go get some "PB blaster" from your local auto parts store and shoot it and let it set for awhile then shoot it again. leave it for awhile and they shouldn't be too hard to break loose

Spray with pb blaster the day before. Re-spray and then Remove the nut on the top part of the clamp. After that get under the truck with a 3foot or better bar and use that to pry up on the interior part of the clamp. It'll magically "SPRING" off...

Cut pipe at the bottom near the end of the front curve, remove.

GO FINE A GOOD MUFFLERS SHOP! I have replaced one and had the mufflers shop replace the other..... 50 bucks! Not worth getting dirty for.

1997 F-350 crew cab dually, auto 4.10 gears, TS performace chip, 3" downpipe, 4" back, NO CAT or MUFFLER!

IMO if it's legal in ur parts go ahead and gut your kitty or put a CAT delete pipe in. you will not believe the difference in the turbo spooling. taking off the downpipe was okay to do, just made me nervous with cutting, but could do it with ease now. actually got a buddy that want's it done this winter. but seriously, how ever you do it, if ya gotta get under there, pull the kitty. i probably would've put a cat delet pipe in to keep it for legality purposes later but they dont' check here and it still looks like it is on there if they check.

It's not hard, but if you get in a bind, stop and take a break.
Then go back at it. I have wrestled headers for 8 hours just to come back after some calm-down time and they dropped in.

Again, To me it is not worth the time to try and save the 50 or 100 bucks, let a muffler shop do it for you in around 15 to 20 mins..... The only trouble you will run into is the firewall with the new downpipe. A pry bar and some mussle does a good job on it...

Do not replace the downpipe unless you plan on removing the cat, you will be wasting you time and money. And go ahead and spend the money and install 4" pipe all the way back.... Great sound and really opens everything up.99.9% of the time YOU will not have trouble with inspection with out it. My 05 Dodge and my 97 F-350 Stroker does not have it any longer and NO trouble at all!

I just replaced mine in my 1996, I used the same pipe. Alot depends on where your cab is on the frame. Mine was set way forward. Had to bend the lip where the floor meets the fire wall. Other than that it is not to bad. Having a friend there helps.

Took 2 hours to figure out how to get the saw in there to cut the pipe out. 15 minutes to put the new one in.

I took another 30 minutes knocking the guts out of the cat. Picked up 3 MPG when babying it. 1.5 MPG when I am beating it, and I have a passing gear at 70 mph now.

I would save my time on tring to take the bolts out, just cut them. The kit comes with the replacements you need. Just don't cut the one on the V-clamp on the turbo. Pick up a 3.5" exaust clamp for replacing the clamp on the Cat housing.

Looks more stock so the inspectors will be less inclined to question.
