Chip vs Programmer

What is the difference between a chip and a programmer? Is one better than the other? How about installation? I am trying to decide what to do and which one is the best for me. Just wanting increased milage and help towing. Any help or adivce would be great! Thanks.

Instead of betting around the bush I will get straight to it. If you want the best tunes for your truck go to Tony Wildman at Total Diesel Performance. Get in contact with him and he can make tune exactly for your truck. Wildman chips will bet the hell out of any other chip or programmer. His tunes a custom made. Almost every other chip or programmer out there is generic tunes.

Avoid Programmers if you can, especially the Superchimps

Why is that? I'm running one in my truck because it was free until i get gauges and the DP tuner. I've got it on the tow performance and my mpg has greatly improved. Is it not safe or something as is?

thanks,

-Jarrod

I've heard superchips can destroy the trans.

I agree with the above posts. Get a chip. DP tuner or TW is the best. I think TW is a better on the OBS trucks and DP is better on the newer 99-03's.

What about an o4 6.0. Mine is Banks right now. I have heard Wildman and SCT. What are the opinions on the Banks 6 Gun, SCT, and Wildman. Thinking about trying something new.

Hey Tony what's the deal with not being able to tune big injectors and turbo on a 7.3 with SCT? Why does it have to be a chip?

You have the 6.0 you need SCT with tunes by DJ's or Innovative the Wildman doesn't work for the 6.0

Wildman is the way to go. He has a variety of tunes that are tailored to a particular truck and it's mods. I have ran a SCT tuner and there is no comparison between the tunes. SCT's are supposed to be safe if you go by the manual. I ran one for years and never got high EGT's. The chip is better in my opinion because you choose the tunes you want and you can switch between tunes quickly.

Look at www.totaldieselperformance.com for more info.
