Yes, I know I can build my own electric fuel kit and save some money. However, I would prefer to buy a complete electric fuel kit with step by step instructions to save myself some headaches. Once I have done a kit, then I will know what it takes and perhaps build my own in the future but right now, I could use the all the guidance I can get. These are some of the kits I am looking at right now. Is one of these kits preferable over the others? Are there even better ones I am missing?
well if you are looking for instructions don't buy the Irate kit.
i was thinking the same way as you are when i bought my kit, but it just came as a box of parts, i e-mailed looking for instructions and was ignored.
it is a nice kit and when i had the fuel pump fail they sent me a new one but the customer service certainly wasn't what i expected.
if i had to do it again i would either go with the Beans kit or just do it myself.
I also wanted a kit with good instructions and all the parts ready to go since this would be my first fuel system project. I ended up buying the Dieselsite CPR kit. It came with a great instruction booklet with large color pictures which made it a fairly easy install. I did have to make an after hours call to Bob Riley concerning the install and he helped me out no problem on a Friday evening. Now that I know what this project is all about, if I were to do it again I would probably source the parts myself to save some cash. But since not everyone is a mechanic or has the help and resources to tackle a DIY project like this, I would highly recommend the Dieselsite fuel system if its in the budget.
I'm sure once someone has done an E fuel conversion a kit seems like a waste of money. I have printed many lists of required parts to do the E fuel conversion from various posts. The parts lists never seem to match and everyone seems to do things a little differently. I want a tried and true setup that I can knock out over a weekend with having to run to the hardware store (that just closed) to buy more of something.
I wouldn't try to do the valve body or the torque converter on my truck either but, I'm sure once I did it I would think heck yes, I could have done this myself now that I see how things work inside the transmission. That's kind of the same thing i am feeling about an E fuel conversion.
I'm in the same boat. A complete kit with instructions, advice and being able to hopefully warranty something if it does not work right is sometimes worth what you pay. I'll be reading all those links. I'm leaning towards the Beans kit right now. If I come across an extra 5 hundy I may go with the diesel site kit. I've read their filters are harder to get. Beans looks like Napa filters.
I did the Strictly Diesel/Driven Diesel/ITP kit on my 00 around 5 years ago. Dennis put together some great instructions and even called me to discuss part of my order which wasn't actually needed before shipping it. On my 95, I ordered the Irate kit because Dennis's was out of stock and the hard lines looked really appealing. I haven't had a chance to install the Irate kit yet but the customer service sucks. I emailed Jake a few times, and managed to get some instructions but he hasn't bothered to respond about the missing pieces.
Here is martys kit... no hoses to leak. He uses baldwin bases which are less prone to filter leaks (over the wix/napa bases) comes with all pushlock hose and fitting and everything u need. Best bet is to call him, and tell him frank sent ya over. The cheapest kit on the market for the pump that u get. He can make other systems the same way with other pumps if u ask. 410-392-3262
How much is his kit? I got a buddy with that pump mite sell it to me cheap, could have sworn Matt said something bout the a1000 not being a long haul kind of pump tho, something from aeromotive anyway
The a1000 will out last any fuel lab pump. If your using an 1000 on stock sticks i would recommend making or buying a pulse width modulator to slow the pump down when not needed IE... below 2/3 throttle. Now with big sticks its using the fuel and everything is fine. With out the modulator on stock sticks the pump just sits there and recirculates constantly which heats the fuel and will take a toll on your pump.
But like i said he can build u asystem with any pump and the price can only go down. For a price u will have to call him. I will not discuss that on here. Atleast out of my mouth. But i can tell u for an a1000 pump kit its WELL worth giving him a call. No idea on other pumps.
Its in the process.... im buying bases, filters, and hose/fittings from Marty. Got a free SD pump on the way, im gonna do a cheep one until i can afford to do it right. Then i will sell my cheep one to someone who needs a kit but dont have a lot of cash. Gonna use my regulator off the international engine i got at the house, and will use a banjo bolt fitting i think. When the turbo comes off is when i will redo the lines back to the head and upgrade the system
FWIW, all of the kits I sell work with any injector. The regulator is the key point in the system though, it will keep the pump cool.
The A-1000 has served me well. On my personal truck I bought a used one in 2009. It is still running on my truck today.
I've logged over 100k with A-1000's with only one failure to date in ~80 +/- kits. That failure was also accompanied by the customer putting power directly to pump because it kept popping the fuse. I have had several problems with FueLab pumps and when dealing with warranty issues, it is not a simple "it broke, I need a new one" like it is with an A-1000.
Hi I am new here but would like to share my experience with Irate and the regulated return system. I had high hopes with this kit especially since its 1000.00!! I found their website very confusing so eventually I had to call them to ensure I was getting the correct kit. The website has little or no information, horrible pictures that look like they were taken with a happy meal phone from 1997.
I received the product within a few days no problem. The first thing I notice is the bracket for the filters is unpainted and raw. This surprised me a bit. Then I looked at the fittings and they are all stamped with made in china! Their website says they use parker fittings and they specifically say they don't use cheap Chinese fittings! WTF. I make a phone call and they agree to send the parker fittings. I rip out my turbo and start following the instructions but wait, the instructions are horrible. The pictures are grainy, there is no overall diagram of the system and its missing steps. One big step that is missing is the fact that you must remove the up pipes to get their fitting on the drivers side rear! WTF the fitting is not any difference in size internally other than it connects up with their hard line which is larger. This put me in an awkward position since I was not prepared to remove the up pipes. I ended up going to home depot and getting an adapter which worked. This also happened with the drivers side front fitting. The stock fitting is straight and they want to replace it with an angled fitting in stead of just using straight fittings and making slight bends in their hard lines. WTF. The kit consists of rubber fuel line and not braided hose. The lines connected to the filters were backwards. They give no instruction on which fuel line is what on the OBS in which I had to troubleshoot. This is not a complete solution! I attempted to call them about 5 more times and sent at least 5 emails in which they will not respond or call me back. I do not suggest this kit or any other irate products after seeing the poor documentation, customer service and their out right lies on the website about what is in their kits. Don't waste your money like I did.
I ran their comp fuel kit on my e99 without any issues.
My kit was all pre-bent steel lines, Parker fittings, painted pump steel mount.
Ofcourse that's been 5 years ago now.
I installed their Obs fuel kit last winter on a buddies obs and didn't have any of the same issues like you did.
Did you call them before purchase as to get install info and why you should choose their kit over others that are popular?
I bet I talked with jake for 2 hours before I purchased his fuel kit. To make sure it fit my setup
