6 speed?

Alright I got a 96 7.3 with a 5 speed manual transmission, I want to know if I can swap a 6 speed from the newer 7.3 models and what the benefits would be?

U can but its not a direct swap. U will need to custom make a trans cross member, add a trans cooler and lines, swap the t-case, shorten rear d-shaft, lengthen front d-shaft.

No real benefit then a slightly higher 6th and a lower 1st with less span in between each gear. Just leave your 5 speed in!

So your getting rid of auto and going manual? Pretty much same stuff, drive shafts are different lengths, not sure about cross members tho, and you will need PCM to be tuned not to throw transmission codes

Just depends on if you want stick or just have your auto built to hold up to that kind of power
