You will be fine adding a tune to your stock tranny and brakes. The highest tune adds somewhere in the 140 hp range and your stock stuff should handle the power just fine (at least mine has).
Yes, gauges are important. Especially if you don't swap out your stock turbo down pipe. There is a huge restriction there that can drive EGTs high with some tunes.
