Intercooler question

Hey guys im new to the game of diesel, id lke to venture out and up grade my system and i was told buying an upgraded intercooler system was a good start. first why is an aftermarket intercooler so important, and what are the best brands out there? thanks guys

Aftermarket ones are not important. Many of us use parts from the SD 7.3 as they are great for our purpose. I would say there are a few mods u should do first b4 looing into an intercooler setup. What kind of mods do u have now

all i have right now is stage 2 AFE intake, and 4" turbo back exhaust. looking to improve my tourqe mostly, not really sure what kind of turner to buy. im leaning more towards an SCT flash tuner. what do ya think? (gauges bought not yet installed, EGT, turbo, Trans temp.)

go with a "TS" style adj chip over a flash tuner for the 7.3, use who evers tunes u want to... i personally run tony wildman tunes.

Yes tuners are garbage and ya need gauges

but whats so bad about the flash tuner? if i instal a chip inst there a possability of it shooting false codes to my computer down the road?

Not if its burned correctly, but as far as flash tuners I had an edge and it about roasted my last trucks transmission, kept the gauge at 210+ all the time. My ts style chip with tony Wildman tunes I was running 180 in death valley on a 126* day, running round town I rarely see over 160, and when towing I've gone a 6% grade hauling an excursion for 3 miles and never went above 180 either. You can get custom tuned chips for your truck that are made for "your truck". That edge is bada** but if you have a auto consider it done. I got a gold super chip id sell cheap. I know its for a 7.3 but not sure if itll work on an obs

These trucks with NO intercooler are MUCH better at controlling heat/egt's than other motors like an IC'd 12v. Cummins get REAL hot, even stock.. these trucks can take a good amount of mods and they still might not get very hot.

I've hit 1500+ no ic and nothing but canned tunes on many occasions, they handle heat well but an ic would be a good idea later
