Tranny randomly shifts down when cruising in 5th

So I had to drive the truck from washington to cali and every once and a while it feels like the overdrive kicks off then it hops back into 5th. Its very sudden and doesn't happen at any particular point. This is while cruising from 2k-2300 and anywhere from 40-75mph. It sat for a while in a damp place could the overdrive be shorting out? It seemed to do it less and less the whole way down, and it doesn't do it at all in the city.

Check the VSS in the rear end. Mine was going out and it would shift all over the place. My speedometer would be jumping too but maybe yours isn't as bad to let the speedometer jump.

well mine shifts that way between those speeds if i give it more throttle than to barely creep up, and i only have 4 speeds in my trans, but was this like close to an incline, or decline, speeding up a little? but as everyone else said, if it is really abnormal and you have a speedo bounce, pull the sensor out of the rear and clean it, if no change, check the tone ring?

My truck w/ only an exhaust dp and intake but 35" heavy mudtires and 6" lift will sometimes do that on an incline... I think it's because the slight incline lugs the motor just enough to call for power power and a lower gear. I've heard that a chip will prevent this from happening anymore.

chip makes mine do it on a slight lug, thing wants to move and get back up there, it's impossible to lug mine what so ever

So your truck will kick down to third with a chip also during a slight incline?

anything below 1600 rpm

No incline or anything, doesnt matter. It just does it for a split second, speedo doesnt jump either and the truck is all stock for now
