Performance Chip? TS???

I'm looking to pull a little more power out of my 1997 7.3 and plan to pick up a performance chip in the near future. As it sits my truck is bone stock but I plan on upgrading to a performance air filter setup, downpipe, exhaust etc. At the moment I'm looking into getting a TS Performance chip but I figured I would get some input from people out there with experience with them. I plan to do no additional upgrades like injectors or a turbo so I'm not looking for anything crazy. I read that the 100hp and 140hp settings dont work unless I make additional upgrades (injectors). And can someone tell me exactly how these chips work? My thought process is more power means more fuel but they advertise them getting 2-4mpg better?? MPG gains and mild power increase is my goal at this point. Any clarification or details would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

There's plenty of tuners out there to source custom tunes. Swamps, Tony Wildman, DP-Tuner, PHP, and Cale to name a few.

The mileage part comes in when you get an economy tune. Changes up fueling, shift points, line pressure, etc.
