Auto to manual?

I want to put a 6 speed in, but do not know what my options are with regards to what will fit, price range, what is a quality transmission, and whether to buy a rebuilt or brand new one. I could search online for transmissions, but would like any input on recommendations and parts I would need. Also, would I be able to reflash my electronics for a manual?

The easy swap would be to a ZF5, for a 6 speed you will need to find a ZF6 out of a superduty 7.3. I would start by looking for a donor truck similar to yours that you can pull parts from, then put in a ZF6, redesign the floor to accommodate the taller transmission and get your drive shafts modified to fit.
