New here..

Hello,

Im picking up my Brand new ( well, new to me ) 97 7.3 F250 on tueday. ( SO PUMPED FOR IT) Its all stock except a 4" exhaust from the turbo back and a rebuilt tranny with firmer shift points and a gauge pod with Boost,pyro and tranny temp.

My questions are..

Whats the "DIY" intake? Can anyone provide a link??
Whats the "BEST" chip? ( i know there will be ALOT of opinions on that, But I want one where I gain MPGs, A high idle, and at least 120HP, So would my best bet be.. TW,TS,DP,Edge?) I want my truck to smoke when I mash on it.. ( Let me make this clear..[B][U][I]NOT TO SMOKE OUT OTHER DRIVERS,JUST TO SMOKE ON THE DRAG STRIP AND AT DIESEL MEETS!!!!

What other mods can I do for better MPG and Power and torque?

Im sure I will learn alot as time goes on, But thanks yall for yer help!!

"Best" is subjective. All have their good points. You will not get 120 HP out of a chip on a 97. 65 HP extra is about tops for stock injectors. You will get a haze with stock injectors, not smoke.

More power and more MPG does not happen at the same time. If you want mileage, you will have to limit power (right foot).

Welcome to the addiction!!

1) There's a bunch of DIY intake options. Most popular for the OBS is filter #6637 and a chunk of pipe of your choice. Can make it as fancy or plain as you want.
2) BEST chip/tuner is a topic of great debate lol. I think the most popular for the OBS is the TS with custom tunes.
3) Intake, exhaust and a good chip/tuner are your best bets for mileage. These are referred to as the basic mods.

Totally agreed with PHP tho, best fuel economy mod is the "keep the throttle pedal off the firewall" mod

Doing the basics will definitely wake your truck up and make you smile but if you want REAL power and torque gains now you are into injectors etc.

There's some OBS specific threads on the org that you should subscribe to. Tons of useful intel and lots of really knowledgeable guys. OBS chat, OBS mods show off, OBS pics, OBS 911. Get on the OBS chat thread and ask all the questions you can come up with.

Oh and my truck smokes some with just the basics...

My DIY intake.
For tuners, DP Tuner, Tony Wildman (aka TW or Total Diesel Performance), Bean's, and Swamp's are some of the more common ones used... do some reading and pick your poison.
You've got a good start already, a good intake and tunes will make it a lot of fun to drive. It only gets more expensive from there
