exhaust and intake

i recently purchased a 97 f250 ext cab short bed. it is completly stock with only 80k. i was going to order a intake and trying to figure if i should go with s&b or afe open type filter. i have had the s&b on my 02 and liked it and seemed to keep rain water off the filter since in a box. if i go that route should i get the dry or reusable filter. And for the next question is about exhaust i did gut the cat and going to cut the muffler just wondering if that will help anything since the downpipe on these trucks are so smashed. just going to use the truck for work driving alot of miles. dont want to spend alot of money on it if no real gains. thanks for the help. not going to chip or anything also.

i cant really answer you on the intake since ive never held neither in my hand but if your gonna stay at stock levels, and if you gutted the cat the stock downpipe should do fine if your on a budget.
