Upgrade differences between 98 and older and 99 and newer.

Hi all,

I used to own a 2000 f250 with the 7.3L. Sold it due to finacial difficulties. I am looking at getting a truck again and like the older bodie styles of the pre 99 trucks. What I want to know is the differences in looking for an older truck for upgrading.

I had 4 inch exausht, diy intake, tony wildman chip, gauges on my old truck. Does this pretty much apply to the older 7.3's as well, if not what differences are there. Is the older engine more mechanical? Thanks

Actually super dutys can run 4" downpipes.

ohhhh, i didn't know that, then why do most of the exhuat kits they sell for superduties come with 3.5 inch downpipes?

I usually see 4" downpipes. I know for sure you can run a 4" downpipe though. If it's a turbo back 4" kit, then it's a 4" downpipe.

Hmm, so if I stick to the basic upgrades it seems like there isnt a huge difference in the engine for my upgrading needs if I buy a pre 99 truck. Mainly buying another powerstroke because I like them, will be for hauling around my corvair if I go to shows and the ocasional run to the dump and to and from work.

Is not having an intercooler that big of a deal, i know the pre 99's didnt come with them, from what I have seen any way.

Not necessarily. My 4in turbo back came with a 3.5 downpipe. Alot of it has to do with backpressure. Unless you are pushing a lot power then you don't need the 4in downpipe

I ordered a kit for my 97" and they accidently sent me a 99 kit that came with a 3.5" downpipe to. Thats why i was assuming most kits came with 3.5" downpipe.

ya if u get a 17* hpop and stage one injectors it compares to a superduty

1997 f250 HD ex cab sb with southbend 450hp singlemass clutch, 6" lift with 35"s, 3 1/2"down pipe with straight pipe, afe stage 2 intake, tw chip, ccv mod, 17* hpop, 120v idm,vegistroke system V3. (AKA electric fuel for diesel and veg side)
UPCOMMING MODS:diy fuel bowl delete,fass pump for diesel side, stage 2's, d66 turbo or modded h2e

no parking cone at stanford university
