Chip/Injector Capabilities
I have a question regarding chips and stock injectors in an OBS truck. It is my understanding that the stock injectors will only flow enough fuel to gain around 80 additional horse power. If this is correct, wouldn't anything over an 80 hp chip be unusable? I have a Banks Big Hoss chip set at 60 hp, and am considering upping it to either the 80 hp or 100 hp level. Is it possible that the 100 hp setting could improve power over the 80 hp setting, or would there not be enough fuel to make a difference?
Thanks for any insight as I am just trying to understand how all of this works. |

You probably might have a 40 hp gain over stock with the banks 100hp tune. Most stock injectored trucks gain closer to 60-75 hp over stock with a GOOD chip

Most I have seen is around 40 - 50 hp gain on a stock truck (OBS), and I've dynoed with tunes from several of the top custom tuning guys.
And yes, anything more than that isn't going to do you anything. But if you were to upgrade injectors then technically your chip should help push more fuel and make more power. |

Agree with the above. The ad "100 hp" that is on the box is a farce.

Thanks for the help! As a follow up, will a chip that calls for more fuel than is available harm the injectors?

No not at all, have you got a exhaust system and a Tymar intake?
