Newbie Question

i'm looking at a 96 single wheel crew cab 2wd 1 ton w/256k on it and an auto tranny. he said its all stock and looks to be in decent shape. he wants 2500 for it. is this a good deal. i'm normally a dodge guy so forgive the dumb questions.

also what performance parts are there for the 96. is it a chip that can be put in or a manual pump. also after putting the mods on will i notice a big increase in the "seat of my pants" power? oh and one more thing, is the stock tranny pretty tough on these ol trucks? i'm not planning on drag racing or sled pulling, maybe just pulling my boat is about it. just want a good running truck.
