I installed a turbo mount BD brake on my 97 F250 PS. Works great except after flipping the switch and using it a few times I will get a CEL. This light will go off if I don't use the brake and cycle the ignition switch a few times. I bought the resistor to plug in to the EBPV pigtail but it still acts the same way. I have a California sold truck. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.
Interesting. I'm having a D-Celerator installed on my 97 F-350 crew cab today. I wonder if I'll experience these same 'quirks'. I'll let you know in a few days.
I went to the website of the DeCelerator and it looks like yours will be installed somewhere down the exhaust pipe away from the turbo. on my install I had to remove the Exhaust back pressure valve and replace it with the BD exhaust brake. Unplugging the EBPV is what I think is causing my CEL. Just dont know how to get rid of it . Hope yours works out . They are the way to go with these older rigs. I have a manual transmission and it works great. It works no matter how slow I am going.
Unplugging the ebpv won't set the cel. I have mine unplugged because the ebpv is deleted and it hasn't set the light. Lots of guys unplug them or delete with no light or issue.
Got my D-Celerator finished up yesterday. Haven't had a chance to pull my trailer yet, but so far it seems to work - even in OverDrive. My torque converter stays locked until I hit the brake (sure wish I had a stick - I bought it used). Then if I tap the fuel it locks back up. I'm still testing it, but the real test will be hauling our trailer. No Check Engine Light yet, so hopefully that won't become an issue. I always keep my Edge Programmer with me so if I do get a CEL I can quickly see what it thinks the problem is.
I've never seen a light with my poor-man-exhaust-brake-otherwise-called-the-EBPV setup. I turn the EBPV on and off as needed and no light ever. I doubt the EBPV system throws a light, because I sure am using it different than the factory programming would understand.
I also have a manual switch to lock the torque converter when using the EBPV as an exhaust brake, and no light when using that in such a non-factory method either.
My truck doesn't meet Cali standards and kills Condors.
Best of luck solving your problem!
