Looking to rechip 97 F250 7.3 auto for a bit more power and more appropriate shifting especially long steep hills needing 2nd. Current issue is once at about 80 kph on steep hills, stomping the accel will cause a drop down, but immediate re-shift. If I let speed drop to 60kph and stomp it, powers right back up to 80+ and stays in lower gear. If I drop speed to 60ish and manually shift to 2nd it'll power right up to 80+ no issue.
So wanting a higher speed to drop and hold lower gear as well as bit more ooomph.
Truck is stock except for 6637 intake and 4" exhaust, cat removed.
I see a TS 6 on sale cheap but saw a comment somewhere that this chip is an outdated 'piece of crap" (I quote).
Thoughts?
Thanks
Nothing wrong with a TS6 but a Hydra is easier to retune if you need tuning adjustments. A TS6 has to be put on a chip burner with a Hydra you can have tunes emailed to you and you download them without removing the chip.
Well, the TS 6 pos hardware is still a pretty good chip. It's the really outdated TS tunes that some retailers put on the chip. They typically are also the wrong files that are common to cause harsh shifting due to not matching your trucks PCM code with the files that "should" be on there.
That being said, I will recommend a TS chip with custom tunes. I happen to be a dealer for PHP, so that's what I would recommend for someone who wants a nice increase in power, but plans on staying with stock injectors.
Get a Hydra or a TS 6 position with custom tunes from Php, Gearhead, Swamps, Tony Wildman, Beans or Dyno Proven. I'm sure I forgot a few but you get the idea.
Any of the reputable custom tuners would be a good choice over what you have. The "best" is always going to provide you with a lot of confusion. Everyone has their favorite. I have a DP Tuner and have been very happy with it. For some reason, they often get left out when people ask for recommendations. I have only used them, so no comparison, but have always appreciated their customer service and the tunes are working well for me.
Use the guys above if you go with anything they carry. They spend time on the forum and will be around for help when you need them
