Annoying Door Chime

My truck seems to have something wrong with the door chime (I think). Just got it so I don't know if this is how it was from the factory:

Door open, Keys Out, Engine Off - Chimes till you shut the driver door
Door open, keys in, engine off - Chimes till you shut the door
Door open, keys in, engine on - does not chime
Nothing changes if the headlights are on and the door is open

This seems wrong to me. Shouldn't it chime if the keys are in or the lights are on, but not if just the door is open? Any idea what switches to check? Or where is the (%&*$ chime so i can just disable it?

It sounds like your key in switch is bad. You can disable it by cutting the blk/pink wire that goes to the ign switch. I am not sure if this will effect anthing else but it should stop the chiming when the door is opened unless the lights are turned on.

Exactly what i needed. I dont have a problem locking my keys in the car, but sometimes with lights... BIG thanks!

let me know if this fixes your problem. I have been bothered by the same thing. when i am driving in the rain i turn on my lights, and when i stop i tend to test the batteries!!!

I unplugged my chime from the harness way back when it was new,don't miss it.

They want the chime for the headlights but not the key.

Me personally i don't care one way or the other if the door chime works, but the headlight one would be nice.

Lights have never been a problem with me,and it helps to have two optimas.

You are correct, but it is kind of embarrassing to come out of a fun and interactive dining experience and see your lights on.... Especially when the other half asks you why you left your lights on...
