Oil Pressure gauge problem?

I have a 97 250hd 2wd. The other day the oil gauge began jumping. Checked and the oil level was fine. Sometimes it jumps to the middle fine and other times it jumps around and it has even stayed at the bottom. Some direction would be great. Thanks in advance.

I had the EXACT same problem. Replace your oil pressure sending unit on top of the HPOP and it'll clear it up. It scared the crap outta me when mine did it lol.

I appreciate the info. I think I may go one better and add a gauge. The stock one is no more than an idiot light.

well make sure that there is actually oil in the HPOP reservior too...i know it sounds stupid but that could be the cause too.

Turbodude is right. Check the reservoir before you buy the sender.

On the top, driver's side of the HPOP is a little plug. A 3/8" or 1/4" (I forget which lol) ratchet w/ extension should fit the square slot perfectly. If the oil level inside the HPOP is full, head to the parts store and get the sender. It shouldn't cost any more than $15
