Dome and courtesy light problem.

First off, my dome and courtesy light used to stay on when the key was off and the doors were open, then after ten minutes of so the would shut off automatically. Now they will not turn on until you start it and shut the door then they will turn on but as soon as you shut it off they go out.

Iíve checked all of the fuses with a test light and all of them are good. Iíve tried replacing the door chime box but that was a no go. Is there a control moduel just for that or something.

I'd suspect the RKE module, though there maybe a way to program the times. Might check the manual.

Re: Dome and courtesy light problem.

I've been through the owners manual several times and I can't find anything. What is the RKE module?
Also forgot to add that the map lights can turn on when ever you want. The bulb for the dome light I brand new.

^^What he said.^^
Map lights should be able to be turned on at any time manually. I'm not sure that the module on these trucks are programmable. However, the only thing in the wiring diagrams that controls the illuminated entry and battery save features that I see is the remote keyless entry. According to the diagrams it is located above the accelerator pedal on a bracket, as my truck does not have RKE I can't tell you what it looks like. Maybe someone else will chime in.

Re: Dome and courtesy light problem.

Thanks I found the modual today it appears to be ok. I can feel it click when I push on the door sensor so I guess my problem is somewhere else.

Just because you hear relays clicking in the module doesn't mean it's good.

Hit a wrecker and grab one from a 93-95 Ford/Lincoln/Mercury, just look for a car with a door keypad. The module will either be in the trunk (Taurus/Sable) or under the dash (Lincoln)

Re: Dome and courtesy light problem.

Ok. Thanks for the info. I'm starting to get a pretty long junk yard list, since the nearest one is 60 miles.
