Why is my dash trim strip is black, not shiny?
The trim strip that runs left to right on the face of the dash on my '96 XLT F250 is black. Pretty sure my two previous XLTs ( a '92 F150 regular cab and a '96 F150 super cab) were a shiny silver.
Does this mean some sort of dealer upgrade to XLT or something?

My 97 XLT aren't shiny.
Saw the trim on an older F150 in the yard though, looked like carbon fiber. Looked pretty slick. |

My 95 gasser I had also had a shiny XLT piece, but my 97 is black. Maybe it was something to do with being a diesel truck, doubt it, but maybe?

My 94 had the silver trim strips while the 97 has the black. Cheers!

The early ones were silver, newer were black, my 95 and both 97's were all xlt and black

My doors are black, but a previous owner converted the dash to silver.

I've got the silver XLT on the dash and the doors of my '97. However, I converted mine to the silver.
![]() Ford stopped using the silver in mid '94 and switched to the black for the XLT trucks. The Eddie Bauer trucks had wood grain or silver. |
